Fixed Wiring Testing for Businesses

19/08/2022

Regular Fixed Wiring Testing, also known as an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), is essential for all commercial and industrial premises. As well as ensuring the safety of your staff, an EICR will protect you under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and Electricity at Work Act 1974. Each electrical installation in your property will eventually deteriorate with age, and a comprehensive testing report will identify any wiring faults. Not all electricians have undertaken the appropriate training to carry out these tests – here at One Way in Stoke, all of our skilled contractors are fully qualified and licenced to provide Electrical Installation Condition Reports, with our coverage spanning across Staffordshire, Cheshire and beyond.

How Often Should Wiring be Tested?

In order to have your business premises covered, many insurance companies will require an up-to-date EICR. Depending on the type of property that you own or manage, this means that fixed wiring testing should be carried out at least every five years. For industrial business, due to the type of electrical systems you may have in place, testing is recommended once every three years. At One Way, our trusted team of experienced engineers can carry out regular wiring testing, giving you a fully comprehensive report to satisfy health and safety legislations and insurance companies.

What Does Wiring Testing Inspect?

Our professional contractors will begin by visually inspecting electrical fittings and fuse boards. We will then conduct functionality checks to assess wiring for deviations from the required standard. During these checks, we will inspect the earthing and bonding of fittings, exposed live wiring, any potential fire or shock risks, and gradual wear and tear of electrical items. The report provided to you will be date recorded and list all potential faults in detail, as well as recommending when your next wiring testing should take place.
