Full Design & Installation of HV & LV Distribution of a New Waste Transfer Centre

One Way has worked on numerous waste industry sites for Viridor since the company was formed in March 2012 and has been involved in both expansion and new-build projects giving design, installation, and maintenance support.

Viridor has invested heavily in its plant at Bargeddie to ensure it has the latest technology to manage this contract and help the partner councils to comply with the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan.

One Way was employed to design, supply and install two 11,000/400V transformers each connected to bespoke 2000Amp and 2500Amp LV switchboards. They worked closely with the process plant suppliers to take into consideration their loads on the electrical system. From the LV switchboards, a cable containment system was installed, and supplies were taken to distribution boards throughout the facility which in turn supplied local power and lighting circuits.

LED lighting was installed in all areas including the external buildings and column-mounted lighting with the site emergency lighting system having built-in automatic self-test facility function. Power supplies were also installed to a new two-storey modular office block, a weighbridge office, and to critical fire sprinkler pumps using fire-rated armoured cabling. A breakdown of the project included:

  • Full Amtech design of HV and LV distribution
  • Lighting design
  • Earthing study, design and installation of lightning protection system
  • Producing CAD SLDs and plan view drawings
  • Ladder containment system design and installation
  • Power distribution cabling
  • LED lighting and emergency lighting
  • Fully addressable fire alarm system with integration for plant shutdown and off-site monitoring
  • HSSD air aspirating systems with integration into the fire alarm system.
  • Set up temporary generators to keep the site running while essential upgrade works were carried out

Client Feedback

“We had been impressed with One Way’s work on our Scottish sites and this led to the opportunity at Bargeddie. One Way clearly demonstrated knowledge and experience while on site and we have built an excellent relationship with them. Therefore, when the opportunity arose, One Way was at the top of our list. The clear work ethic which flows through the company builds trust and confidence.

The Bargeddie project was complex and took up to 18 months to complete, with One Way regularly on site. When not at Bargeddie, One Way was always accessible and responsive. For example, a change in project requirements created an unforeseen need for remote monitoring of the facility. We contacted them and they made it all happen on-site within 48 hours, travelling to Staffordshire to Scotland straight away to ensure all work was completed.

One Way is a trusted part of our team and we can happily recommend their services.”
