Full Design & Installation of a New LV Substation in a Waste Transfer Centre

The project involved transforming an existing waste transfer station at Fareham, generating fuel from waste. The client needed to build two new substations. One Way had to work alongside the electricity supplier SSE who was commissioned to design and supply a HV substation. The client needed a second power distribution substation and went out to the market. One Way won the contract following a competitive tender against three companies which had all worked with the client previously.

There were major time constraints as One Way had to dovetail with SSE’s schedules. Due to a legal issue over rights to lay vital cables under land owned by a third party, the project had to be halted after work had already begun on site. This issue did not involve One Way but had a major impact on their work as carefully planned timelines were scrapped and new plans drawn up.

One Way provided a full detailed design for a bespoke sub-station, supplying switchgear and working to a tight programme. While work was carried out; the site had to switch to diesel generators. One Way ensured the switchover ran smoothly and completed the switchback once the power station was completed. A breakdown of the project included:

• Full Amtech design of the sites LV distribution
• Autocad drawings – Single line diagrams (SLD) and plan views
• Ladder cable containment installation
• Power distribution cabling
• Upgrade existing Distribution boards to IP65 rated
