The project
The design and installation of the complete HV and LV distribution Infrastructure to serve Viridor’s state of the art waste transfer centre at Bargeddie, North Lanarkshire.
One Way were employed to design, supply and install a two site 11,000/400V transformers each connected to bespoke 2000Amp and 2500Amp LV switchboards. We had to work closely with the process plant suppliers to take in consideration their loads on the electrical system.
From the LV switchboards, a cable containment system was installed, and supplies taken to distribution boards throughout the facility which in turn supplied local power and lighting circuits.
State of the art LED lighting was installed to all areas including external building and column mounted lighting with the site emergency lighting system having built in automatic self-test facility function.
Supplies were also installed to a new two- storey modular office block, weighbridge office and to critical fire sprinkler pumps using fire rated armoured cabling.
One Way has worked on numerous waste Industry sites for both Viridor and other leading operators in this sector since the Company formed in March 2012. We have been involved in both expansion and new projects giving design, installation and maintenance support.
Viridor has invested heavily in its plant at Bargeddie to ensure it has the latest technology to manage this contract and help the partner councils to comply with the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan and Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012.
One Way worked with Viridor as a sub-contractor on Scottish waste transfer sites before winning a contract as the main contractor for electrical installation at Bargeddie.
Viridor’s Project Manager Willar Straker-Smith appointed One Way. She said: “We had been impressed with One Way’s work on our Scottish sites and this led to the opportunity at Bargeddie. One Way clearly demonstrate knowledge and experience while on site and we have built an excellent relationship with Managing Director Wayne Bennett. Therefore, when the opportunity arose, One Way were at the top of our list.
“The clear work ethic which flows through the company builds trust and confidence.”
The Bargeddie project was complex and took up to 18-months to complete, with One Way regularly on site.
Added Willa: “When not at Bargeddie, One Way were always accessible and responsive. For example, a change in project requirements created an unforeseen need for remote monitoring of the facility. We contacted Wayne and he made it all happen on site within 48 hours, travelling to Scotland from Stoke-on-Trent straight away to ensure all work was completed.
“One Way were a trusted part of our team and we can happily recommend their services.”[vc_separator]
