Full Design, Build & Relocation of Motor Control Centre at Energy from Waste Facility

One Way was appointed to deliver the full upgrade and relocation of an ageing Motor Control Centre (MCC) at a Suez Recycling Energy from Waste (EFW) site. The existing MCC was situated in a remote external lean-to building and had reached the end of its serviceable life, with corrosion making continued operation unreliable and unsafe.

Working in partnership with IES Works, One Way designed and installed a replacement MCC, which was relocated to the main site control room for improved access, operability, and protection. The project required significant pre-planning and coordination due to fixed shutdown windows and complex integration with the existing SCADA system and infrastructure.

Despite space constraints, scaffolded working areas, and a tight commissioning schedule, the MCC was built, installed, tested, and fully commissioned within the programme—ensuring minimal disruption to plant operations.

Scope of Works Included:

  • Full schematic design of power and control systems
  • Specification and build of new MCC in partnership with IES Works
  • Integration of variable frequency drives (VFDs) into process control
  • Installation of new ladder and tray containment to replace corroded systems
  • Installation of new power and control cabling ahead of shutdown
  • Off-site factory acceptance testing (FAT) and supervised delivery
  • Final termination and commissioning during a fixed two-week shutdown window
  • Coordination with SCADA integration and system commissioning
