Suez Recovery and Recycling

Flexibility, know how and ability to work in partnership helps One Way to support the UK’s recycling industry

The project involved transforming an existing waste transfer station at Fareham, generating fuel from waste.

The client needed to build two new substations. One Way had to fit in with the electricity supplier Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) Electrical contractor working on electrical distributionwho were commissioned to design and supply a High Voltage substation. The client needed a second power distribution substation and went out to tender.

One Way won the contract following a competitive tender. All three companies in the running for the work had worked with the client previously.

There were major time constraints as One Way had to dovetail with SSE’s schedules.

Mike Baynes of Suez engaged with Wayne Bennett, Managing Director at One Way and agreed prices and a timescale.

One Way had to purchase switch gear and provide a detailed design for a bespoke sub-station, working to a programme produced by Mike.

While the work was carried-out the site had to switch to diesel generators. One Way ensured the switch over ran smoothly and completed the switch back once the power station was completed.

Due to a legal issue over rights to lay vital cables under land owned by a third party, the project had to be halted after work had already begun on site. This issue did not involve One Way but had a major impact on our work as carefully planned timelines were scrapped and new plans drawn up.

Following a three-month delay, One Way were back on site and keen to begin work on the final switch over.[vc_separator]

They were proactive in suggesting solutions on site and were able to adapt and add to their work where necessary. One Way understood both our requirements and site constraints. Everything ran to schedule and we had a positive relationship built on trust.”[vc_separator]
